How to Reset the TPMS in a Nissan

Many Nissan vehicles employ a tire pressure monitoring system, or TPMS, that uses sensors to track the inflation of all four tires. When one of the tires is low on air pressure, the TPMS will display a warning light on the control panel. After the low pressure situation is resolved, the TPMS needs to be reset so it can accurately keep track of the tire pressure. Each Nissan vehicle requires a different amount of pressure for the tires. The recommended pressure is printed on the side of each tire.

Things You'll Need

  • Compressed air
  • Tire pressure gauge
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface where all four tires can be easily accessed.

  • Remove the caps from the valve stems of each tire.

  • Press the tire pressure gauge into the valve stems of each tire to measure the current tire pressure.

  • Press the nozzle of the compressed air into the nozzle of any tire that is low on air. Release the nozzle after a few seconds and measure the pressure with the gauge. Repeat the process until all the tires are inflated to the recommended pressure.

  • Replace the caps on the valve stems of all the tires.

  • Drive the vehicle at more than 16 mph for two to three minutes so that the sensors can obtain enough data to monitor the tires. The warning light will go off when the system detects that the pressure is adequate.
