How to Use Cruise Control on My 2002 Audi A4 Quattro

The apocryphal story of the fellow who set his car’s cruise control and retired to the back seat to have a beer notwithstanding, cruise control makes long trips in your 2002 Audi A4 Quattro a bit less wearing. Although using cruise control on city streets is universally discouraged, it’s useful for travel on the open road because you won’t have to give yourself a charley horse trying to maintain a steady speed on the highway. Remember, too, that when you use cruise control, you must still maintain your grip on the wheel and aim the car where you want it to go.

On, Off and Changing Speeds

  • When you wish to activate the cruise control on your Audi A4, you’ll find the cruise control activator on the stalk behind the lower, left spoke of the steering wheel. When the lever is all the way up, it’s in the “off” position. Push the lever down – you’ll feel a slight click as you do -- to engage the cruise control system. Push the button on the end of the stalk to set the desired speed. Once the speed is set, you can increase the speed by pushing the stalk upward, or decrease your speed by pushing it downward. To turn the system off temporarily, step on the brake or push the stalk up slightly, but don’t click it into the “off” position. To resume your previous speed, pull the lever downward. To turn cruise control off completely, push the lever upward until it clicks into place.
