The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a four-door wagon whose retro styling pays tribute to the panel vans of the 1930s. While almost any vehicle can be towed on a car carrier, a trailer that supports the entire vehicle off the pavement, the front-wheel-drive platform of the PT Cruiser allows it to be towed on a dolly. Tow dollies lift only the front two wheels of the vehicle off the pavement, leaving the rear wheels grounded.
Affix the dolly lights, towing chains and tow dolly to a properly equipped towing vehicle. Align the dolly and towing vehicle in a straight line and on a flat surface after they have been securely attached to each other.
Locate the front tire straps away from the tire platforms; they may need to be unrolled from the tie-down ratchets.
Tilt the tire platforms down to the pavement by unlocking them from the dolly.
Drive the PT Cruiser toward the tire platforms with the assistance of a guide. Slowly drive up the platforms until they are lifted from the pavement and the front wheels reach the wheel stops and are centered on the dolly.
Secure the tire platforms by locking them and engage the PT Cruiser's parking brake. Manual transmissions should be shifted into the lowest possible forward gear and automatic transmissions should be in park.
Center the tire straps over the PT Cruiser's front wheels and secure them with the tie-down ratchets, leaving no slack.
Fasten the safety chains from the tow dolly to the PT Cruiser's frame, allowing a small amount of play. The safety chains should not cross, block or inhibit any part of the Cruiser's undercarriage.
Release the PT Cruiser's parking brake.
Tow the PT Cruiser while performing safety checks after the first 100 feet and then after 5 miles. Further safety inspections should be done every 50 miles.
