A handy optional feature on the Chevrolet Lumina is the cruise control. This device allows your vehicle to maintain a set speed without having to maintain pressure on the accelerator. This can help with fatigue on long trips. It can also help prevent your speed from inadvertently creeping up over the speed limit. Using the cruise control might take a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, it is hard to drive without.
Accelerate the vehicle until you obtain the desired speed. Ensure that you can safely maintain the desired speed. Locate the cruise control on/off switch near the end of the turn signal switch on the left of the steering wheel. Move the switch to the middle "on" position.
Locate the cruise control Set button on the end of the turn signal switch. Push the button in and then release it. Remove your foot from the accelerator. Observe your speedometer to ensure the cruise control has engaged at the desired speed.
Press on the brake pedal to disengage the cruise control and slow the vehicle down as traffic patterns dictate. When it is safe to resume your desired speed move the on/off switch to its far right "R/A" position and release. The cruise control will re-engage and return the vehicle to the previously selected speed.
Press on the accelerator to increase your current speed to a higher desired speed. Ensure you can safely maintain the higher speed. Press the Set button and release to override the previously selected speed.
Press on the accelerator to temporarily increase your speed in such instances as when you need to pass another vehicle. Remove your foot from the accelerator and the vehicle will return to the previously selected speed.
Move the cruise control on/off switch to its far left "off" position to turn the cruise control off. This will erase the set speed memory of the cruise control.
