How do I Find the Value of an Isuzu Commercial Box Truck?

Because of the commercial nature of the Isuzu box truck, there is a lot of support for valuation, if only for tax purposes. As a vehicle grows old, it depreciates, which is tax deductible in most circumstances. The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) compiles and publishes books for valuing trucks (as well as many other motorized vehicles) to assist their members in buying and selling used trucks. This information is then also used by accountants and the IRS to value the worth of a truck that is claimed as an asset for a business.

Things You'll Need

  • NADA truck guide
  • Look at the odometer in the truck cab. Write down how many miles the truck has on it. This is used as part of the valuation process. Look over the truck as a whole. Write down any damage, cosmetic or structural. This will also affect the value of the truck since any damage would have to be repaired before the truck could be resold on the open market.

  • Locate the title to the truck and make sure it is a clear title with no liens on it. If the title has liens, then those liens will count against the value of the truck. If the title is a salvage title, then the truck is not salable or able to be valued by NADA. Consult a scrap metal dealer for current steel prices and solicit bids for your truck.

  • Look up the truck in the NADA guide if there is a clear title. There will be a section for Isuzu trucks, further delineated into types of truck -- box, refrigerated, tank. You will be looking under box. Select the box truck length that matches your truck's length. There will be several conditions listed under that heading. Locate the truck condition that most closely resembles yours. Do not embellish as any buyer will see the truck for himself beforehand. Be especially careful about selecting the correct condition when valuing the truck for depreciation accounting purposes, as lying to investors or the IRS is a felony.
