Donating your vehicle can result in a deduction on your state income tax, and several donation programs provide free vacations to donors. Not only that, but you won't need to even take your car anywhere. Most programs in California will offer to tow away your car for free.
Get in contact with the Center for Car Donations. They will arrange to tow your vehicle and can provide you with a duplicate title. You will need to sign this in order to transfer ownership to the Center. They will then sell your old vehicle at public auction and will donate the proceeds to charity. They take cars in all conditions -- including cars that may not be functioning properly.

Kars 4 Kids raises money for J.O.Y, which is a registered non-profit organization that provides programs aimed at youth who are at risk. You can also register your car for donation at the Kars for Kids website through a simple online form. As well as providing you with a tax-deductible receipt in exchange for your vehicle, the organization will provide you with a free vacation voucher which can be used at locations across the United States. Kars 4 Kids will also arrange towing of the vehicle.
Give your car to the Teddy Bear Cops Vehicle Donation Program. This program provides teddy bears to children in crisis situations. You can complete the online form on their website or call 877-327-1229 for more information. The Teddy Bear Cops Vehicle Donation Program collects vehicles from all locations in California and provides either a free vacation voucher or a tax deductible receipt in return for your vehicle. A title is required. If you don't have one, a duplicate can be obtained. For cars made before 1997, a Reg 227 form should be filled in. For newer vehicles, a Reg 262 form will need to be completed. The Teddy Bear Cops Vehicle Donation website can advise you further on obtaining a duplicate title for your car.
