Introduction

Like many makers of sporty luxury cars, Infiniti uses the BMW 3-series as its dynamic development target. BMW still sets the pace in this segment, but it’s fair to say that these Infiniti fraternal twins come closer than most to matching the performance of those most delightful of Bimmers. Although the rear- and all-wheel-drive G35 sedan and rear-drive-only G37 coupe offer only one six-cylinder engine—a V-6 displacing 3.5 liters in the sedan and 3.7 liters in the coupe—it’s robust, making 306 horsepower in the four-door and 330 in the G37. Add eager responses, sophisticated good looks, and pricing substantially lower than that of corresponding BMW models, and the G presents a value proposition that’s hard to resist.

Verdict

If a BMW isn’t an absolute must—and you’re okay with a bit of a ragged edge to your refinement—here are two great ways to look good, go fast, and save bucks doing it.
