How to Replace the Side View Mirrors on an Impala SS

The Chevy Impala uses the same style of side mirrors as most late-model vehicles. The plastic mirror lens rests inside a larger plastic mirror housing that protects the lens from damage. However, the housing cannot protect against everything, and at some point you may end up with a broken mirror lens. If this happens, you must replace the mirror with a new one to avoid visibility issues.

  • Push the right side of the mirror lens into the mirror housing with your hand if you are replacing the driver's side mirror. If you are replacing the passenger's side mirror, push the left side of the mirror into the housing. This forces the opposite side of the mirror to sit slightly outside of the mirror housing.

  • Grasp the end of the mirror sitting outside of the mirror housing and pull hard on it to remove the retaining clips from the mounting post located inside of the mirror housing.

  • Place the new mirror inside of the housing. The mirror housing on the Impala SS is a tight fit and forces the retaining clips on the back of the mirror lens into the correct location for mounting.

  • Push the mirror into the housing with your hand until you feel the retaining clips spread apart and then surround the mounting post inside the housing.
