How to Fix an Automotive Window Seal Leak

A seal leak about the windows of your automobile can be disappointing. But, it happens to many vehicles, especially with age. The urethane sealant wears down and cracks, causing a leak at the glass edge. First, you need to locate the leak. Then, you can fix it by resealing the leak using fresh urethane sealer.

Things You'll Need

  • Urethane sealant
  • Trim removal tool
  • Soap
  • Water/water hose
  • Sponge
  • Lint-free towel
  • Run water over the window to locate the area on the window that is leaking.

  • Pry up the window seal with a trim removal tool. Wedge the tool underneath the trim and pry it up.

  • Clean the glass edge with soap and water with a sponge and dry it with a clean, lint-free towel.

  • Apply a bead of urethane sealant to the glass edge and press the window trim down against the urethane sealant.

  • Let the urethane cure for 24 hours.
