How to Grease Bearings in Matco Tool Boxes

Matco tool boxes feature high-quality construction. Matco prides itself in creating a durable, nearly indestructible tool box perfect for the mechanic and auto repair industry. However, even the best-engineered products need proper maintenance. The Matco tool boxes feature steel ball bearing glide construction for their drawer glides. Lubricate these glides periodically with the proper medium body grease.

Things You'll Need

  • Matco tool box
  • Spray lithium white grease
  • Clean rags
  • Q-tips cotton swabs
  • Pull the drawer out to its full extended position. Visually inspect the drawer glide to see if there is any dirt or grime buildup. Remove any dirt and grime with clean rags or Q-tip cotton swabs as necessary.

  • Insert the spray tube of the white lithium grease aerosol can into the drawer slide, into the area where the drawer slide enters the tool box cabinet. The ball bearings are just behind the edge of the tool cabinet.

  • Spray a short blast of lithium grease into this area, then spray a light coating onto the exposed drawer slide.

  • Push the drawer in and out of the tool box a few times to apply the lubricant. The drawer's operation will spread the lubricant across the slide, and will re-lube the entire slide and bearing assembly.
