The Ford Ranger has a driveshaft (also called a driveline) that connects the transmission to the rear axle. The models with longer wheelbases have longer driveshafts, and because of this, need to have some kind of support so that the driveshaft doesn't go out of balance. This is called a center support bearing or a carrier bearing, and it mounts in the middle of the driveshaft. If this bearing should fail, then the driveshaft will vibrate and could fail, which would prevent the car from moving. To fix the problem, you need to install a new center support bearing.
Put the wheel chocks around the front wheels of the Ranger and lift the rear off the ground with the jack. Put jack stands under the axle.
Lay on your back and move underneath the Ranger. Unbolt the driveline from the rear axle flange with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and an open-end wrench. Unbolt the center support bearing on the driveline from the frame with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and an open-end wrench. Unbolt the driveline from the transfer case with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then pull the assembly out from underneath the Ranger.
Unbolt the half round yoke from the coupling shaft with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and an open-end wrench. Take off the yoke from the driveshaft. Press the center support bearings off of the yoke with the large hydraulic press. Install the replacement center support bearing on the driveshaft with the large hydraulic press.
Bolt the half round yoke onto the driveshaft's coupling shaft with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and an open-end wrench. Put the driveshaft back underneath the Ranger and reinstall it to the frame, the rear axle and the transfer case with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and an open-end wrench. Lower the Ranger off of the jack stands with the jack.
