How to Remove the Direct Injection Fuel Injector in an Isuzu 3.5L

The direct injection fuel injectors found in a Isuzu 3.5l engine take the fuel sent from the fuel pump to the cylinder head of the engine. These injectors can wear down and become less effective over time, and should that happen, the engine will run poorly and could hesitate when running. To fix the issue, you need to remove the fuel injectors from the engine to have them replaced or cleaned.

Things You'll Need

  • 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Pop the hood. Locate the fuse box under the hood and remove the cover. Remove the fuel pump relay (read the diagram on the underside of the fuse box to locate the relay). Remove the gas cap. Attempt to start the engine for 30 seconds to evacuate all fuel and fuel pressure from the system.

  • Unbolt the engine cover from the engine with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket to reveal the fuel injectors. Unplug the wiring to the fuel injectors using your hands.

  • Unbolt the fuel supply manifold from the intake manifold using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Lift the fuel supply manifold up out of the intake manifold with the injectors still connected to the fuel supply manifold.

  • Remove the clips holding the injectors to the supply manifold with the needle-nose pliers. Pull the injectors out of the engine bay and away from the Isuzu.
