How Do I Remove a Dash Handle From a Silverado?

The dashboard on a Chevrolet Silverado has a dash handle located right above the passenger air bag, designed for the passenger to hold onto in off-road situations. If you ever need to remove the passenger-side air bag or the dash plate, this dash handle has to come off as well. Although the removal method isn't readily apparent upon examination, with a few quick tips you can remove the handle yourself in just about 15 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 long-handled flat-head screwdrivers
  • Flashlight
  • Assistant
  • Place the tip of a flat-head screwdriver in the gap between the air vent to the left of the passenger-side air bag and the dashboard. Twist the screwdriver to pop the vent out of the dash, then pull it out entirely. Repeat the process for the air vent to the right of the passenger side air bag.

  • Shine the flashlight inside each vent to locate a white button inside. Place the tip of the flat head screwdriver on one button and have your assistant hold the tip of the other screwdriver on the other button.

  • Simultaneously push the screwdrivers in towards the buttons, then--while the buttons are depressed--pull the dash handle away from the dashboard.
