How to Remove a Blower From a VW Golf 3

The blower on a Volkswagen Golf III is referred to by Volkswagen as a Fresh Air Blower, and it is the fan that pushes the air conditioning or heated air through the air vents to cool or heat the cabin. When this blower goes out, you won't have any air circulating through the vents, and therefore, no hot or cold air. To fix the problem, you have to remove the blower so that you can replace it with a new one.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Open the passenger door and look up underneath the glove box and locate the blower motor, which is black in color and has plastic raised ribs along the bottom running front to back.

  • Unplug the wiring to the blower motor with your hands and release the clips holding the wiring to the blower motor.

  • Unscrew the blower motor from the climate control system, using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Lower the blower motor down and away from the climate control system.
