How to Fix a Blower in an S10 Blazer

Modern vehicles are equipped with blowers for moving air through the heating and air-conditioning system to cool and warm passengers. The blowers are not simply fans; the blower assembly has a motor, fan and resistor combination for overall functioning. Chevrolet's S10 Blazer uses this blower assembly, but it may require repair if the system malfunctions.

Things You'll Need

  • Nut Driver
  • Screwdriver
  • Locate the blower assembly. S10 Blazers commonly position the blower inside the engine compartment, against the passenger sidewall.

  • Detach the blower motor's electrical wire and lay it to the side.

  • Detach the blower motor from the vehicle by removing the retaining nuts with a nut driver. Pull the blower motor away from its position.

  • Visually inspect the blower motor. Make sure that it has no scorch marks or other obvious signs of damage. Replace the blower motor if any damage occurred.

  • Detach the adjacent blower motor resistor by loosening the screw with a screwdriver.

  • Visually inspect the resistor's spring mechanism for any damage. Replace the resistor if the vehicle experienced irregular functioning, such as speed control issues.

  • Reattach the blower motor resistor assembly with the screw, using a screwdriver. Verify that the resistor and blower motor assemblies are snugly tightened against the vehicle's passenger wall. Do not over-tighten any nuts or screws.

  • Reconnect the blower motor's electrical wire.

  • Turn on the vehicle. Test the heating and cooling functions by choosing both high and low fan speeds. Verify that the blower assembly responds correctly to all changes in fan speed and temperature choice.
