The Horn Won't Work on a Chevy Truck

If the horn won't work in your Chevrolet truck, it's crucial that you replace it with a new part. The horn module under the hood creates the horn's sound. If you buy a new horn, you won't need a mechanic to install it if you feel comfortable working under the hood of your truck, and the only tool you'll need is a screwdriver. The horn module is shaped like a disc and is attached to the grille under the hood.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Horn
  • Engage the hood latch near the driver's side footrest to pop the hood. Exit the vehicle and locate the lever underneath the middle of the hood to raise it. Push the lever to the left and pull the hood up, stabilizing it with the hood rod. Point a flashlight under the truck's hood to locate the horn module. It will be on the other side of the grille, mounted by screws and attached to a cable.

  • Reach down into the engine compartment for the horn module and remove each of its screws with a screwdriver. Unplug the power wire from the module and remove it from the engine compartment.

  • Mount the new horn module against the grille and screw it into place with the mounting screws from the old module. Plug the power wire into the new horn module then close the hood.
