How to Use an MT2500 Scanner

The MT2500 scanner from Snap-on Tools provides the ability to perform tests and troubleshooting for engines, transmissions, anti-lock brakes and airbag systems. Specific procedures will depend on which software cartridge is loaded into the scanner. Refer to the documentation that accompanies the software cartridge.

Things You'll Need

  • Vehicle identification number (VIN) for the vehicle being repaired
  • Software cartridge
  • Disconnect any test wires and turn off the scanner.

  • Align the bottom of the software cartridge with the slot in the scanner body.

  • Insert the software cartridge into the scanner until it clicks into place. The surface of the cartridge should be flush with the scanner body.

  • Press and hold the ID button until the scanner display is lit. Release the button.

  • Select the appropriate software title from the displayed menu. The menu will vary depending on what software cartridge is installed. Press Y to confirm your software selection.

  • Identify the vehicle on which the scanner will be used by entering the VIN characters indicated on the display. Enter information for the vehicle to be tested as requested by the scanner.

  • Select the appropriate vehicle system from the system menu.

  • Connect the test adapters to the vehicle as indicated by the connection message on the display.

  • Select the appropriate test from the menu for the vehicle you have identified.
