The Fuel Pump Relay Location on a 2001 Toyota Tacoma

Toyota released the Tacoma pickup midway through the 1995 model year, as the replacement for the Toyota pickup -- formerly known as the Hi-Lux. The 2001 Tacoma had three engines available: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, a 2.7-liter four-cylinder and a 3.4-liter V-6, all of which had an electric fuel pump delivering fuel from the gas tank to the engine. A relay turns the pump on and off with the ignition. When the 2001 Tacoma's relay fails, knowing its location makes the repair quick and easy.

Locating the Under-Hood Junction Block

  • Toyota positioned the 2001 Tacoma's under-hood junction bock -- which houses relays and fuses -- on the driver's side of the engine compartment, just behind the battery. It is black in color and has a plastic lid on top of it.

Locating the Fuel Pump Relay

  • The 2001 Tacoma's fuel pump relay -- known as the EFI relay on the 2001 Tacoma -- is inside the under-hood junction block. Remove the plastic lid from the junction block, and the fuel pump relay is on the far-right side of the junction block; it's the second relay from the bottom.

Replacing the Fuel Pump Relay

  • Replacing the 2001 Tacoma's fuel pump relay is an easy task. Pull it straight up from the junction block, using a slight wiggling motion to remove to. To install a new relay, line up the prongs on the bottom of the relay up with the slots in the junction block, and press the relay into the junction block.
