How to Install LED Lights in the Dash of an 04 4-Runner

The 2004 Toyota 4Runner contains various lights on its gauge cluster known as dash lights. As with all lights on your 4-Runner, the dash lights will eventually burn out. If this occurs, you may want to install LED dash lights on your gauge cluster as they will burn brighter and last longer than traditional halogen bulbs. Installing LED lights on the dash of your 2004 4Runner is a simple process that takes no more than an hour to perform.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • LED bulbs
  • Open the 4Runner's hood and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.

  • Remove the lower portion of the dashboard by pulling it off. It will come right out.

  • Pull off the dash cover around the instrument cluster.

  • Remove the three screws and two 10mm bolts securing the instrument cluster to the 4Runner. Use a Philips screwdriver for the screws and a socket wrench for the bolts.

  • Disconnect the wiring harness of the cluster and pull it out of the 4Runner.

  • Remove the 10 screws on the back of the instrument cluster with a Phillips screwdriver and pull it apart.

  • Remove the old bulbs by pulling them out of their sockets. Install the LED lights by pushing them into the sockets until they click into place.

  • Reassemble the instrument cluster and place it back into the 4Runner. Reconnect the wiring harness and reattach the bolts and screws. Reattach the dash and reconnect the negative battery cable.
