The blower motor switch on your 1998 Chevrolet truck allows you to turn the blower motor on and off. If the switch begins to malfunction, you will not be able to operate the motor and the hot or cold air will not circulate throughout the interior of your truck. Although you can still operate your vehicle with a faulty blower motor switch, it may make driving uncomfortable. It is best to replace the blower motor switch as soon as you can. Thankfully, it is a quick and easy process that should take you no more than forty minutes.
Open the hood of the truck and use a socket wrench to remove the negative cable from the battery.
Remove the center console bezel by removing its four corner screws with a Philips screwdriver and then prying it off with a slotted screwdriver.
Remove the two screws securing the AC unit to the vehicle. Depending on the type of Chevrolet truck you have, you may need to remove the screws securing the radio as well.
Pull the AC unit out of the truck and disconnect its wiring harness. Remove the screw securing the blower motor switch with a Philips screwdriver. Use a slotted screwdriver to pry off the switch from the AC unit. Place the replacement switch onto the AC unit.
Reconnect the AC unit's wiring harness and reinstall the blower motor switch screw. Place the AC unit back into the vehicle. Secure it by reinstalling its two screws.
Reattach the center console bezel and reinstall its four corner screws. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
