How to Replace the Blower Motor Resistor on a 1998 Jeep Cherokee

The blower motor on your 1998 Jeep Cherokee is powered by a resistor that essentially acts in the same capacity that a fuse does. The blower motor resistor also controls the speeds at which your blower's fan operates. The blower motor resistor goes out it can prevent your blower from functioning. In some cases, it will only allow the motor to work only in certain speeds. Replacing the blower motor resistor is a job you can do from home in approximately 30 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Screwdriver
  • Replacement blower motor resistor
  • Open the hood of your Cherokee and remove the negative battery cable.

  • Remove the screws holding the resistor in place and pull it free.

  • Place the new blower motor resistor in and screw it down.

  • Pull your glove box into the up position until you hear it click. Replace the contents.
