How do I Disconnect a Door Chime on a 98 Windstar?

Door chimes can be one of the most helpful, and yet one of the most annoying, pieces of technology in a vehicle. Many Windstar owners may desire to disconnect their door chime for a variety of reasons. Door chimes can be extremely aggravating when trying to use your vehicle for a drive-in movie, picnic or other event. Disconnecting the door chime on a 98 Windstar is a simple process and requires only a few minutes of time.

Things You'll Need

  • Fuse puller (located in fuse box)
  • Park your vehicle in a flat location.

  • Locate your Windstar's fuse box underneath the steering wheel.

  • Remove the fuse panel by pulling on the latch and pulling the panel off.

  • Locate the fuse puller and remove it from its holster.

  • Locate the fuse on the diagram labeled "Int. Chime". The corresponding numbers on the diagram match to the array of fuses in the box.

  • Squeeze the fuse puller on to the head of the "Int. Chime" fuse and pull it out of the box. This may take some force, but be as careful as possible.

  • Replace the fuse puller and the fuse panel cover.
