How to Replace the Turn Signal Light on a Subaru Legacy

Properly functioning headlights, taillights and turn signal lights on any street vehicle is required by law. If you need to replace a turn signal bulb, the procedure should only take 15 to 30 minutes. Make sure to get the proper replacement bulb for the make and model of your Subaru. Once you have replaced the bulb and put the assembly back in place, you will be free to get back on the road safely.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Replacement bulb
  • Purchase a replacement bulb from the auto parts store or an online distributor. Make sure to indicate the year and model of your Subaru so you get the appropriate bulb.

  • Park your Subaru on level ground and engage the emergency brake. Open the hood of the vehicle and disconnect the negative battery cable by lifting it off of the terminal for safety.

  • Position yourself in front of the light assembly you will be working on. Locate the screws holding the light assembly in place on the front and back. Remove them with a Phillips head screwdriver and put them to the side in a safe place so you don't lose them.

  • Pull the assembly away from the car. Grab the burned out turn signal bulb and rotate it counterclockwise to remove it. Put it to the side.

  • Grab your replacement bulb and tighten it into place in a clockwise direction until it locks into place.

  • Position the assembly back into place and affix the screws. Connect the battery cable once again and lower the hood.
