How to Tow a Cadillac CTS-V

Recreational towing is when a vehicle is towed behind another vehicle for recreational purposes. There are several ways to tow a vehicle. The most common two towing methods are the dolly and the dinghy towing methods. Dolly towing involves the use of a tow dolly. The vehicle towed with two wheels on the dolly and the other two wheels on the ground. Dinghy towing involves all four wheels on the ground during the tow. The Cadillac CTS-V should never be towed using the dinghy method.

Things You'll Need

  • Tow dolly
  • Park the towing vehicle, the tow dolly and the Cadillac CTS-V on leveled ground. Attach the tow dolly to the towing vehicle using the instructions that came with the tow dolly.

  • Release and pull the straps to the tow dolly so that the straps are long enough to attach to the Cadillac CTS-V. Tilt the tow dolly back by releasing the locking pins. Carefully drive the Cadillac CTS-V's rear wheels onto the dolly. The rear wheels are placed on the dolly because the CTS-V is a rear-wheel drive vehicle.

  • Shift the Cadillac into the "Park" position if it is an automatic transmission. Shift into first gear if it is a manual transmission. Secure the straps and safety chains onto the vehicle as described in the dolly instructions.

  • Turn the ignition to the "Lock/Off" position. Your vehicle is now ready to be towed. Make sure not to go over 45 mph.
