The Location of the 1995 Chevy S10 CPU

The CPU is the computer that controls the engine in the 1995 Chevy S-10. The technical term for the CPU is the "Engine Control Computer" (ECC), according to the Haynes repair manual. When the computer goes bad, your S-10 probably won't start. If it does, the computer will not properly regulate the engine and you can expect your truck to run poorly. Before you can replace the ECC, you must find it.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Open the door to the S-10's glove box and remove the contents.

  • Remove the four screws that secure the glove box to the bottom of the dashboard.

  • Pull the glove box down about 6 inches to separate it from the dashboard.

  • Unplug the glove box light bulb socket and pull the glove box the rest of the way out of the S-10.

  • Look at the firewall behind the glove box mounting location. You should see a silver box with a large wiring harness connected to it. This is the computer (CPU) for the S-10.
