How to Remove a Ford Evap Hose

The evap hose on your Ford truck regulates the amount of gas fumes emitted by the engine into the air intake and throttle body. It is a vital part to controlling the pollution emitted by your vehicle and can need to be replaced if damaged. If the evap hose is faulty and is left on, you will more than likely fail your state's emissions checks and face a hefty fine. Therefore it is worth your time to remove a damaged hose.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Turn your truck off and open the hood, propping the hood up with the hood stick. Clear away any debris on top of the engine that may be blocking your view of the engine bay.

  • Locate the air intake to your right (if you are facing the hood). There will be an air-fitter that is connected to a plastic air duct going to the front of the engine. Along this duct is a black plastic or rubber hose. The hose will be secured to the port on the air intake via a metal O-clamp.

  • Unscrew the O-clamp with a screwdriver, rotating counterclockwise until the O-clamp is loose. Pry the hose off with a flat-head screwdriver as the hose will be gripping the plug tightly.

  • Find the evap controller in the engine bay. It will be a fist-size, black plastic box. Unclamp the O-clamp on that end and pry off the hose. The truck can still be driven, but warning lights will be set off, and the truck will not be compliant with many emissions regulations.
