How to Keep Corolla From Overheating

Overheating in a Toyota Corolla, or any car, is a serious problem. If left untreated, overheating can cause extensive systemic damage to your vehicle. It is a problem that should never be ignored. As cars age, the parts wear may out and the systems may break down. Many car engine issues can lead to overheating. It's important to keep the car well maintained to prevent your Corolla from overheating.

  • Check the levels of your Toyota Corolla's fluids. Add engine coolant if it is low.

  • Give your Corolla regular service checks and routine maintenance. Some causes of overheating include a dirty radiator, worn-out hoses, slipping belts, a leaky water pump, leaky head gasket or fan malfunction. Check all these systems for possible wear or problems.

  • Avoid overusing the air conditioner on your Corolla. Operating the air conditioner on high for over a half an hour can cause older Toyota cars to overheat. Turn the air conditioning down to medium after 30 minutes of use.

  • Roll down your windows and turn the heater on if the temperature gauge gets high. This procedure takes heat from the engine and pulls it into the car, thus reducing the engine's temperature.

  • Drive at an even rate of speed. Don't accelerate too quickly at unnecessary times. If your engine has to work too hard, the temperature goes up. This may lead to the car overheating.
