How to Remove a Steering Pump From a Mazda B3000

If you notice a loud noise when you steer or a dramatic difficulty in turning your steering wheel, it may mean that the power steering pump in your Mazda B3000 is going bad. If this is the case, you will need to replace it. Unlike in the Mazda Miata, the B3000 power steering pump comes assembled as one unit with the reservoir attached. You can purchase replacement power steering pumps at just about any auto-parts store.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Line wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Open the hood of your Mazda B3000. Remove the negative battery cable with a socket set.

  • Locate the adjustment bolt on the power steering pump and remove it with the socket set.

  • Remove the power steering line return hose with a line wrench. Hold the drain pan under the hose to catch any dripping power steering fluid.

  • Pull the power steering assembly forward along the power steering bracket to loosen the tension in the drive belt. Slip the belt off the power steering pulley.

  • Remove the bolts holding the power steering assembly in place with a socket set. Carefully lift the power steering pump assembly out.
