How to Program a Key Fob for a 2006 Honda

Keyless entry is the vehicle feature that allows you to control door locks and trunk release with the push of a button on a keyless entry remote or fob. Keyless entry remotes come programmed when you purchase your 2006 Honda vehicle, but if you obtain a new key it will not work until it's been programmed. Programming a new remote in your 2006 Honda will deactivate all of your previously programmed remotes, which means all remotes must be re-programmed at the same time.

  • Get into your 2006 Honda and place any key in the ignition, turning the key to the "On" position.

  • Push "Lock" and "Unlock" on any of the remotes you are programming.

  • Turn the key in the ignition to the "Lock" position.

  • Repeat the first three steps two times using the same remote you pressed the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on in Step 2.

  • Turn the key in the ignition back to the "On" position and push the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the same remote. The locks on your Honda will cycle, confirming you have successfully completed the steps in the programming process to this point.

  • Program the rest of your keyless entry remote controls by pushing the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the remaining keys, making sure the door locks in your Honda cycle in between each key. Remove your key from the ignition and test your keyless entry remotes.
