How to Program a Mercury Keyless Entry

Many of Mercury's automobiles come with the option of keyless entry; this is a feature that allows you to lock and unlock your car's doors and open its trunk by pushing the correct buttons on a fob attached to your car key. When purchased from a Mercury dealership, the Mercury comes with two programmed key fobs. If you find yourself in need of a new key fob for your Mercury, order one from an authorized Mercury dealership. When it arrives, you need to program the remote to work with your Mercury vehicle.

  • Insert your new key into the ignition of your Mercury. Turn the key to the "On" and "Off" positions eight times. After turning the key the last time, you should leave it in the "On" position. You must complete this step in less than 10 seconds in order to correctly program your new keyless entry remote. Your car doors will lock and unlock if you correctly complete this step in the allotted time frame.

  • Push the button of your choice -- it does not matter which one -- on your new keyless entry remote. This step must be completed within 20 seconds of completing step 1.

  • Turn the car off. The locks will once again cycle to confirm that you have correctly programmed your Mercury's new keyless entry remote. If they do not cycle, you have not programmed your key, and you should start the process over.
