Ford 460 Bore Specs

The 460 was produced from 1968 to 1996. This type of engine was available in Ford, Mercury and Lincoln vehicles. The 460 had many of the same features as the 429 engine, but the stroke was longer. Knowing the bore specs of your Ford 460 will give you more insight on what is under your hood.

Size

  • The bore of the Ford 460 is 4.36 inches. The stroke that goes with this bore is 3.85 inches, and the piston rod is 6.605 inches.

Performance

  • This particular matching of bore and stroke is referred to as "big bore, short stroke." Many engines have a bore diameter the same or close to the length of the stroke. With the "big bore, short stroke" matchup, you get more torque at lower revolutions per minute (rpm).

Material

  • The bore on the Ford 460, just like many of the other engine parts on this vehicle, was made of cast iron.
