How to Replace a Honda Civic Hood Latch

Many people decide to change the hood on their Honda Civic to one that is made of lightweight fiberglass to help improve fuel economy or to reduce the weight of the Honda for racing applications. Most aftermarket hoods offer functional features such as cowl induction or ram air, but some are simply decorative -- just to make your car look customized. Regardless of your reason, if you need to replace the hood, you will need to remove the hood latch from the underside of the original hood so you can transfer it to the new hood. Fiberglass hoods utilize the stock latch to ensure you do not have to replace the latch locking mechanism. The process is straightforward and should take less than 10 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Turn off the engine. Open the engine hood by pulling the hood release latch on the driver's side kick panel. Support the hood on the hood prop.

  • Locate the hood latch on the underside of the hood. It is in the middle front of the hood.

  • Remove the two bolts (one at each end) that secure the metal hood latch to the underside of the hood using a socket and ratchet. Pull the hood latch free of the underside of the hood.
