How to Remove a Saturn's Headliner

The headliner in a Saturn is made of a thin, lightweight fabric material. The lighter the material, the better it stays on the headliner board. Sometimes, though, the headliner can begin to sag or fall down at the corners. If not repaired immediately, the headliner will continue falling or sagging, sometimes blocking the driver's view and creating a safety hazard.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Remove the plastic casing surrounding the center, front and rear dome lights. These can be pulled down by using your fingers or gently prying the plastic off of the ceiling with a flat screwdriver.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the Phillips screws from the sunvisors in the front of the Saturn. There is one Phillips screw in each sunvisor, at the base where the arm of the visor meets the ceiling. Remove this screw and the visor will fall down.

  • Pry the plastic molding off of the sunroof if your Saturn is equipped with one. The headliner is only held up by the molding and the actual sunroof won't affect the headliner or its removal.

  • Remove the Phillips screws from the edges of the headliner. These are hidden by plastic buttons that can be popped off with your fingers or gently pryed off with a flat screwdriver. Pull them off and remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. The headliner will fall down once these are removed.
