How to Troubleshoot Aztek Turn Signals & Flashers That Won't Work

If the turn signals and flashers on your Pontiac Aztek begin to malfunction, there are three possible causes: Loose electrical connectors, old or burnt out bulbs, and broken or popped fuses. Repairing any of those problems is fairly simple and only requires a Phillips-head screwdriver and a replacement bulb or fuse. As the flashers are important for your safety and well-being, they should be checked as soon as they begin to fail.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean gloves
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Replacement bulb
  • Replacement fuse
  • Turn off the Aztek and open the hood. Put on the gloves.

  • Remove the two inboard screws securing the lamp assembly to the fender bracket. Unsnap the assembly by lifting it straight up. Pull the assembly out of the vehicle.

  • Pull lightly on the electrical connector at the rear of the assembly. If it comes out, secure it to the assembly. If the turn signals are still malfunctioning, there may be a problem with the bulb.

  • Unscrew the turn signal bulb socket from the assembly by pressing down on the tab while turning it counterclockwise. The turn signal socket is the smallest socket on the assembly. Pull the old bulb out and replace it with a new 3057NA bulb. Place the socket back into the assembly until it clicks into place.

  • Place the assembly back into the vehicle and snap it into place. Reattach the two screws to secure the assembly to the fender. If the turn signals are still malfunctioning, there may be a problem with the fuse.

  • Remove the cover from the under-hood fuse block on the driver's side. Locate the fuse numbered "20." This is the turn signal fuse. If the fuse is broken, it will need to be replaced. A fuse needs to be replaced if the metal inside of the fuse is no longer in one single piece.

  • Pull the fuse out the fuse block and replace it with an identical 15A fuse. Place the cover back onto the fuse block and close the hood.
