The Ford F-150 pickup first entered production in 1975 and is the best-selling pickup of all time, consistently leading in units sold for most of the last 30 years. The F-150 is available with several engine options and all have used electronically fuel-injected engines for more than 20 years. The fuel-injection system is a pressurized system that maintains a pressure of around 28 psi. Before working on the fuel-injection system, the fuel pressure must be relieved to prevent the release of high-pressure fuel.
Park the F-150 on a firm, level surface. Set the parking brake.
Grab the edges of the passenger side kick panel, and carefully pull it off. It is held on with pins that snap into the body. The kick panel is located below the dash, in front of the door.
Remove the electrical connector from the fuel cutoff switch mounted on the body behind the kick panel. This will disable the fuel pump.
Start the engine, and let it run until it dies to relieve the pressure.
