How to Change the Mirror on a Chevy Tahoe

The mirror on the Chevy Tahoe bolts to the windshield by way of a metal button glued to the windshield. The metal button has a groove cut into each side, and the base of the rearview mirror has two prongs that fit into the metal grooves on the button. This is what keeps the rearview mirror secured to the button. Removing the mirror from the button requires a Torx Driver. This looks like a screwdriver except the head has an eight-sided star instead of a slot or a Phillips head. You can get a Torx Driver at your local automotive or hardware store if you do not already have one.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx Driver
  • Push the lens of the rearview mirror upward so it faces the roof of the Tahoe, allowing you to clearly see the base of the rearview mirror.

  • Insert the head of the Torx Driver into the setscrew located on the base of the rearview mirror. Turn the screw counterclockwise to remove it from the base.

  • Slide the base of the mirror upward to remove the mirror from the button.

  • Place the base of the mirror against the windshield, directly above the metal button. Slide the base of the mirror down onto the button until it seats in place.

  • Thread the setscrew into the base of the mirror with your fingers and then tighten it with the Torx Driver.
