How to Change the Brake Light on a Toyota RAV4

In the 2014 and 2015 Toyota Rav4, open the rear lift gate and remove the two bolts that hold the taillight assembly to the rear quarter panel. The brake light is in the upper bulb socket of the assembly. Turn the socket counterclockwise and pull it out of the back of the assembly. The replacement bulb is a 21W-5W clear wedge-base bulb, No. 7443. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket. Try not to touch the new bulb with your bare hands. Use a tissue or a clean cloth to handle the bulb when you insert it in the socket. Put the socket back into the taillight assembly and turn it clockwise to lock it in place. Install the taillight assembly on the quarter panel and tighten the two bolts.

Brake Light Fuse

  • In your Rav4, there are three fuse panels. If both brake lights don't work, check the fuse 7.5A in slot No. 1 in the fuse panel under the driver-side end of the dashboard.
