How to Replace a Ford Ranger Headlight Switch

A faulty headlight switch can be very dangerous because it can cause your headlight to short circuit or stop working. You should always replace a faulty headlight switch before it interrupts safe driving. Fortunately, the part is relatively cheap and easy to replace. Replacing the headlight switch on 1993 and 1994 Ford Rangers follows the same steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Remove the negative battery cable from the battery.

  • Open the ashtray, push the connector latch down and pull out the ashtray.

  • Use a socket wrench to unscrew the instrument panel screws. Pull off the panel trim and storage bin.

  • Pull the headlight switch out as far as it goes.

  • Push the knob release button on the driver's side of the switch, and pull the knob and shaft out of the switch.

  • Use your fingers to unscrew the plastic nut on the switch. Pry the connector tabs back slightly and unplug the electrical connector from the switch.

  • Remove the switch and replace it by sliding the new switch into place. Reverse instructions to finish installing the new switch.
