If you've suffered a bump that has broken your wing mirror, it's going to be impossible to see what's going on behind you. Replacing car parts can be expensive and time consuming and you might be wondering how you can get the mirror fixed as quickly and as cheaply as possible. Repairing it yourself might seem like a daunting task but it is actually very simple. You will need a replacement mirror and some special tools, but these can easily be purchased from an auto shop.
Cover the mirrored glass on the replacement wing mirror with masking tape and spray the rest of the component to match the color of your car. Leave it to dry before attaching it to the car. (See references 1)
Make sure your window is rolled down and turn off the car's engine if it is running. As an extra precaution, disconnect the car battery's negative cable. (See references 2)
Remove the door trim panel to access the wing mirror attachment. Remove the screws holding the broken wing mirror in place. Look for any hidden screws and use the hooked pick to remove their caps. These might be further down on the inside of the car door.
Disconnect the old mirror from its electrical wires carefully. If your car has manual window controls and a manually adjusted mirror, you can skip this step. However, if your car's mirror is adjusted electronically, you will need to make sure the old mirror is disconnected from the relevant wires.
Replace the old mirror with the new mirror. Once you have done this, you will need to make sure any electrical connections are securely in place before screwing the mirror back into position. If you can, check that you can adjust the mirror properly before screwing all the parts back on. However, don't reconnect the battery until you have secured all electrical connections behind their covers.
Reconnect the battery once you are sure everything has been replaced properly. Once you have done this, you can start using your new side mirror immediately.
