How to Replace a Rear Light on a Ford Ranger

A malfunctioning rear light can cause an accident, so it is important to repair it as soon as it stops working. Bulbs wear out over time, and replacing them is part of basic truck maintenance. Fortunately, this is a fairly easy fix that doesn't require a great selection of tools, time or money.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • New bulb
  • Open the bed of the truck. Unscrew the screws holding the rear light lens in place with the Phillips screwdriver.

  • Remove the lens from the rear fender.

  • Turn the bulb socket with your hand until it is aligned with the hole in the lens. Remove the bulb socket.

  • Pry back the clip on the bulb socket using a flathead screwdriver, taking care not to break it. Remove the bulb from the socket.

  • Insert the new bulb, and reverse the steps for installation.
