How to Replace a Honda Accord Door Lock Actuator

Late-model Honda Accord door lock actuators are integrated into the door latch mechanisms. They can be separated from the door latch. They have been found to be susceptible to corrosion due to moisture. If the door locks work on several doors, the door lock mechanism is likely bad. If none of the door locks operate, the fuse should be checked, followed by the master window switch in the driver's door.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Large Phillips screwdriver
  • Small common screwdriver
  • Remove the side view mirror bolt concealment cover by pulling it off. Remove the screw in the plastic filler cover forward of the inside door handle, using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the screw located in the recessed part of the armrest, which is attached to the window switch, using a Phillips screwdriver. Lift the plastic recess up and the window switch will lift up with it.

  • Disconnect all the electrical plugs from the back of the window switch. Remove the screw in the inside door handle that secures it to the door, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the door handle out and away from the door enough to disconnect the two door latch actuating rods from the rear of the door handle. Push the plastic retainers away from the rods and lift them out.

  • Remove the door panel by placing the common screwdriver between the door panel and the door at the lower rear edge and prying all the trim fasteners out of the three sides of the door panel. Remove the panel. Peel the moisture shield back to expose the door latch.

  • Disconnect the electrical plugs from the door latch. Remove the two rods from the rear of the outside door handle in the same manner as the inside handle. Remove the three large Phillips screws securing the door latch to the rear of the door. Remove the door latch/door lock mechanism from the inside of the door.

  • Remove the screws securing the door lock mechanism to the door latch and remove the door lock actuator. Replace all parts in reverse order of removal.
