Almost all newer vehicles come equipped with a cabin air filter. The cabin filter is a secondary filter that traps any dirt and debris from reaching the inside of the vehicle. The cabin air filter contains fibers that trap and hold dirt and debris. The air flow comes in from the outside of the engine and is routed through the cabin air filter before being released into the inside of the vehicle.
Enter the passenger's side of the car and open the glove box. Almost all cabin air filters are located behind the glove box.
Remove the bolts holding the glove box in place with a 3/8-inch drive ratchet and socket. Also remove the glove box stops.
Remove the cross bar that secured the glove box. The cross bar will have three bolts on each end that can be removed with a small socket and a 1/4-inch drive ratchet.
Remove the right side plastic cover. There are typically two small bolts holding the cover in place that can be removed with a small socket and the 1/4-inch drive ratchet.
Locate the black square box behind the glove box compartment. The cabin air filter is located inside this box which is mounted toward the rear of the compartment.
Remove the door covering from the black square plastic box. The door will either unlatch, or it will be held on by a bolt. Unlatch the door or remove the bolt. Pull the door cover off of the box and you will see the cabin air filter.
Slide the cabin air filter out manually and pull it straight out. The cabin air filter will be inside of the cabin air filter frame.
