How to Remove Dents with a Hairdryer

Auto body work can be expensive, and waiting to get your car back from the shop is a pain. A minor dent is no reason to run to an auto body technician. You can remove most small dents yourself with a hairdryer and a can of air duster, which you may have handy. Removing dents with a hairdryer is a very simple process that works very well on small imperfections.

Things You'll Need

  • Extension cord
  • Hairdryer
  • Air duster
  • Plug your hairdryer into an extension cord so it can reach your vehicle. Set it to the highest heat setting and hold it close to the dent. Heat the dent for one to two minutes, moving the hair dryer evenly over the entire surface of the dent.

  • Turn a can of air duster upside down and spray liberally over the dent, immediately after heating it. It is important to hold the duster upside down so that the contents come out as a liquid. Do not get the liquid on your skin. You will see ice form over the dent.

  • Wait for the ice to begin melting. The dent will pop out as the ice melts. Wipe the excess liquid away with a clean rag once there is no trace of ice left on the vehicle.
