How to Replace a 2002 Honda Accord Instrument Cluster Bulb

The 2002 Honda Accord instrument cluster uses small self-locking bulbs to illuminate the dash lights. These low-wattage bulbs normally last a long time, but will eventually burn out. When they do, you can purchase replacement bulbs from most auto parts stores or directly from a Honda dealership. Because the back of the instrument cluster on the Honda Accord is an exposed circuit board, you may need to take extra precautions when working with it. Ground yourself prior to starting this job by touching the frame of your Accord, or by putting a grounding strap on your wrist.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement dash bulb
  • Screwdriver
  • Unscrew the two screws at the top of the underside of the instrument panel trim cover using a screwdriver.

  • Pull the instrument panel trim off of the cluster assembly.

  • Unscrew the four screws from the instrument cluster that hold the cluster assembly in place.

  • Slide the cluster assembly forward.

  • Unplug the electrical connectors from the back of the instrument cluster.

  • Turn the cluster assembly over and locate the bulbs that need replacing.

  • Turn the instrument cluster light bulb counter-clockwise to unlock it from the back of the cluster assembly.

  • Pull the bulb out of the back of the instrument cluster and insert a new bulb. Then, turn the bulb clockwise to lock it into the instrument cluster.

  • Reassemble the dash by reconnecting the electrical connectors to the back of the cluster and securing the cluster and trim with the factory retaining screws.
