How to Change the Throttle Position Switch on a Dodge Diesel

The throttle position sensor on your Dodge diesel truck sends an electrical signal to the engine control unit informing it of how wide open the throttle blade is at any given moment when the Dodge is on. The engine control unit then sends an electrical signal to the injectors, informing them to inject the precise amount of fuel needed for proper operation. If the throttle position sensor isn't working properly, you could be wasting precious gasoline and the truck won't run correctly.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet
  • Sockets
  • New throttle position sensor
  • Remove the electrical connector from the throttle position sensor by pushing down on the tab and pulling it out. The throttle position sensor is located directly on the throttle body and is typically black.

  • Using a ratchet, loosen the two bolts holding the throttle position sensor onto the throttle body.

  • Pull the throttle position sensor off of the throttle body.

  • Attach the new throttle position sensor onto the throttle body and tighten the bolts with a ratchet.

  • Plug in the electrical connector by pushing it into the throttle position sensor.
