How to Program an Acura RL Keyless Remote

Acura introduced the RL in 1996. Replacement keyless remotes for models of the RL with power door locks and keyless entry systems can be purchased from an Acura dealership or online at keyless-remotes.com. Remotes purchased from the dealership will be programmed by the dealer's service department but will be more expensive. Replacements purchased online will cost less but require the vehicle owner to perform the programming at home.

  • Enter the vehicle with the ignition key and all remotes to be programmed available. Close all doors and unlock all door locks by pressing the "Unlock" button on the driver side door panel. Insert the key into the ignition and turn the key to the "Lock" position.

  • Press and release the "Lock" button on the remote being programmed. Turn the key to the "On" position and back to the "Lock" position. Repeat this process two additional times, then press and release the "Lock" button on the remote. The vehicle's alarm system will emit a chirping sound indicating the vehicle has entered remote programming mode. If you do not hear the chirping sound, repeat all steps to enter programming mode before proceeding.

  • Press and release the "Lock" button on the remote being programmed and wait for the chirping sound to indicate the remote was programmed successfully. Repeat this process for additional remotes that need programming. A total of three remotes can be programmed.

  • Remove the key from the ignition to exit programming mode. Test the remotes by locking and unlocking the vehicle doors.
