The combination switch on a Kia Sportage is multipurpose: It controls the turn signals, cruise control and headlights on your vehicle. When this unit fails, you will lose all control over these functions. You can pick up a replacement switch from a Kia dealership; just be sure to ask for the switch for your particular vehicle make and model. Once you have the new switch, you'll need to know how to replace the old one.
Open the hood. Use the socket wrench to loosen the nut on the negative battery cable, and slide the cable off the negative terminal.
Remove the screws on the underside of the steering column with the Phillips screwdriver, and pull the bottom half of the steering column down with your hands.
Pull up on the upper part of the column cover to remove it.
Pull out the two screws that hold the combination switch to the steering column.
Remove the electrical plug connected to the switch.
Install the new switch. Installation is the reverse of removal.
