The ignition switch is the component on all vehicles that is usually mounted on the right side of the steering column where you insert the ignition key. Removing an ignition switch on many vehicles requires that you have the ignition key. The switch will not come out of the steering column without it in most cases. Fortunately, the switch mechanism is relatively inexpensive to replace once you do remove it.
Insert the key into the ignition and turn the key to the "II" position.
Slide the pin punch into the small hole underneath the ignition switch. On some vehicles the hole is underneath the steering column and directly below the ignition switch. On other vehicles it is just below the ignition switch.
Push the pin all the way into the hole and apply upward pressure on the pin.
Pull the ignition switch and cylinder out of the steering column while applying upward pressure on the pin. The pin is pushing the release tab on the back of the switch and cylinder assembly to release the cylinder lock and switch.
