The CRX was a popular compact hatchback that Honda sold from 1984 to 1991. The car was built from the Honda Civic platform and shared many components with the Civic. All models of the Honda CRX have a mechanical fuel pump that can be easily accessed within the engine bay, making fuel-pump replacement much easier than on some newer cars.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and locate your fuel pump. The CRX fuel pump is on the passenger side of the engine bay.
Remove the plastic fuel pump cover and set it aside.
Mark the fuel lines for their location, and then carefully twist and pull the lines to remove them. Clamp the ends of the fuel pump lines to reduce spilling.
Remove the two fuel-pump retaining bolts (front of the fuel pump) and remove the fuel pump and gasket. If the gasket will not come off easily, carefully scrape the mounting area to pry it off. The old gasket cannot be reused.
Thoroughly clean the mounting surface with a rag.
Mount the new fuel pump and gasket. Use the torque wrench to tighten the bolts to 17 foot-pounds of torque.
Remove the clamps and reattach the fuel lines in their proper location. Replace the plastic fuel pump cover. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
