The speed sensor is a magnetic coil that is screwed into the bottom of the transmission. The sensor monitors the rate at which the transmission gears turn and relays this information to the speedometer inside the vehicle. When your speedometer malfunctions, it might be the electronic components that make up the gauge cluster. However, a more likely cause is a faulty speed sensor. Once the old sensor has been removed, you'll need to install the new sensor.
Orient the speed sensor so that the exposed magnetic coil is inserted into the transmission.
Insert the speed sensor into the bottom of the transmission. The exact sensor location varies according to the vehicle, but most generally, it is on the bottom of the transmission. Thread the sensor into the transmission and tighten it with an open-end wrench.
Plug the electrical connector that runs to the bottom of the transmission into the electrical plug on the back of the speed sensor.
